Taking a Different Approach to IFBB Bikini Pro

I want to use this space to keep track, in real time, of how I’m getting to IFBB Bikini Pro. I’m not doing it the traditional way and it can be so easily to forget ‘all the things’ that it took to achieve a goal.

So I’m going to document it here.

First things first, I’m not meal/macro/calorie restricting from the start. Instead, I’m spending my first 12 weeks (September 7th – December 6th, 2020) of prep mastering 2 habits:

  1. Recording my macros in MyFitnessPal
  2. Completing my workouts as indicated on my workout calendars

That’s it.

The biggest game changer, at this point, is developing my fitness consistency muscles so I’m essentially letting myself eat whatever I want and, while I’m meal prepping, I’m clear that I’m not going to drop body fat the way I want to… yet.

The first 12 weeks will be about getting vigilantly consistent on recording macros and getting workouts in (I’m working out 3 to 4 hours a day with 2 hours of that being weight training) and, then, in the second 12 week block (Starting December 7, 2020), I’ll work on carb cycling, bringing down the calories (I’m currently consuming 2,700 – 3,800 calories a day- yes, way too much) and drinking 128 oz of water a day (right now, I’m at 30-70 oz water/day- not nearly enough).

And sleep… I’m currently not sleeping well- 5-6 hours a night and most nights are not restful. That’s my current reality and I want to remember that I wasn’t sleeping well at this time so that when I assess my results, I’m looking at the complete picture. Good sleep or poor sleep, the show must go on… and it is…

I’m trying something, with this prep, that I’ve never done before- habit stacking and leading with small tweaks. It’s going to take me 2 solid years of vigilantly consistent work to even step on stage for an NPC Bikini fitness competition which will put me at 45 and then it’ll take me 2 to 3 more years to get to IFBB Bikini Pro so, while I’m currently sitting at 42.7 years of age, the commitment to achieve this goal will require the next 4-7 years of my life (essentially IFBB Bikini Pro by 50). That’s the reality of how long this will take.

We’ll see how things go over the next 5 or so years…
